27 of Manchester Richmond’s Brothers, Coworkers, and Guests joined over 10,000 walkers on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Richmond Raceway Complex in an effort to save lives from breast cancer. With their sprayed pink hair and pink ribbon tattoos, the VA Moose Stampede raised almost $3000.00 for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
Lodges and Chapters from around the Greater Richmond Area were invited to participate. Hopewell Moose Lodge graciously donated $1000.00. Lakeside Moose Lodge offered to host the after walk luncheon. The staff was courteous and the food was delicious.
Some members personally donated money and/or solicited funds from friends and family. Coworker, Emily Mills, from Manchester Richmond Chapter 1078, not only was honored on stage by local celebrities for raising over $1000.00, but also won a pair Kate Spade sneakers during the "You CAN Sparkle" challenge. Other Team members simply paid a $25.00 entry fee to participate in the event where they received lunch and a team shirt. The profits after expenses contributed to the team’s fundraising goal. The Moose “Stomp Out Cancer” shirts really helped the herd stand out in an ocean of pink.
Overall, the VA Moose Stampede enjoyed a beautiful sunny day, filled with fun, fraternalism, and community spirit while doing their part to Stomp Out Cancer!
